Down to Earth – A Christmas Devotional Journey
Reflect on our ‘down to earth’ Saviour – the Jesus who stepped into the mess and detail of life on Earth, and calls us to do the same.
When Jesus was born as a human in an ordinary guest room in the small town of Bethlehem, he upended what the world thought it knew about God. Not distant and untouchable, he became truly down-to-earth – God with us, God living like us, God doing all the everyday things that humans do.
His example is one of humility and involvement. Of putting your boots on and getting out there. Of getting your hands dirty, working to make Earth more like heaven. His mission touches every part of life – every place, task, and relationship – and he calls us to play our part in it.
In this 25-day Advent devotional journey, you’ll get fresh perspective on the familiar Christmas story, and be inspired to follow the down-to-earth Saviour in your everyday life.
Throughout December, you’ll explore four different themes through Bible reflections. You’ll consider the amazing humility Jesus shows in his incarnation; the huge scope of his redemptive work on Earth; the invitation he gives all kinds of people to be part of that work; and what it looks like for the church to go out into his world, joining in his down-to-earth mission.
The journey is perfect to do either on your own or with your church family, and comes with accompanying sermon plans and videos for use in the four Sundays of Advent and Christmas Day. If you’re a church leader, why not plan to do it as a congregation this year?
The journey will be available from 1 December via email or the YouVersion app. In the meantime, check out our journey overview to see what’s covered.
