Holding a Back to School Sunday service in September is a great way to show that your church values what people do during the week, and to affirm that God is at work through them in the places they go day by day.
Our free service plan has all you need to make it happen!
For the kids and youth in your church, school is probably their main ‘frontline’ – the place where they regularly spend time with people who don’t follow Jesus. The missional opportunities are huge, but the pressures and challenges are real. By taking time to commission them into the new school year, you can encourage them that their church family are cheering them on, and inspire them to see their lessons, break times, and school work through God’s eyes.
Back to School Sunday is also a great chance to affirm the teachers, TAs, technicians, caretakers, caterers, and others who work in schools – highlighting that God’s at work through them Monday to Friday, in all they do. That’s a message that applies to all of us: when we commission people into their everyday roles, it sends a message that all work matters to God.
Download the service plan for free and plan to use it this September, January – or even just after a half term!
FYI schools in Scotland go back in August. SU Scotland have been doing this for about 25 years…😉
