Why do some young Christians grow their faith, yet disturbing numbers (70 per cent, by some estimates) walk away from what was once so important to them? Is there any good news for the ‘missing generation’?

These questions have led Dr Ruth Perrin to spend time learning from millennials for over a decade. Her findings have now been published in a landmark study: Changing Shape: The Faith Lives of Millennials (SCM 2020). Pete Ward, Professor of Practical Theology at Durham University, wrote in review: ‘I am struggling to think of a more important book that will be published this year. Ruth Perrin’s research is quite simply a game-changer.’

In short: it’s well worth a read.

Following Ruth’s talk ‘Thriving through Your Twenties’ on 28 September, join us for an interactive deep-dive into her book spread over four sessions. In conversation, we’ll reimagine discipleship and evangelism for Christians aged 18 to 30, as they form a coherent identity in life and faith.

Together, we’ll make sense of the cultural shifts this group is experiencing and the effects these changes have had on faith (de)formation in ‘post-Christian Britain’. In particular, we’ll unpack why the gospel is still good news to the so-called ‘lost generation’ – people who are tired of religious spin yet anxious for real hope. What might it look like for ‘the church to believe in Millennials’?

This Open Book event is primarily aimed at young adults and anyone interested in disciplemaking and witness to 18s-30s. Plus, if you know, love or minister to a young adult, this dialogue will help you reimagine a way forward.

You’ll need to pre-read Changing Shape to spark conversations at our fortnightly zoom gatherings:
