Discipling People for Fruitful Retirement

Date

Tuesday 15 March 2022 | 1:00pm

Online Event

God grows people in retirement, working in and through them. But we don’t always see it that way.

More people retire than go to uni, or get married, or have children. The opportunities are huge – just imagine the impact if every one of those people was envisioned and equipped to join God’s kingdom work, right where they are.

If you’re in any kind of leadership at church, join LICC’s Church Team to learn how to equip the retirees in your church or group for whole-life mission.

From our ongoing research, we know people in retirement find themselves asking big questions about their identity, their relationships, and their purpose. Lots of Christians in the final years of working life have a large sphere of influence and a clear purpose in their work – whether it’s making useful products, serving others, or running a business. When they retire, it can be easy to feel they’ve lost their field of ministry. And as a result, many church and ministry leaders tell us people in this season of life often find it difficult to recognise that they can make a genuine difference in their new daily contexts.

But the great news is that Jesus calls us to follow him in every stage of life. We never retire from following him! The Bible is packed with examples of God working in and through people in their later years, and stories abound of older adults blessing and reaching others on their frontlines in the UK today.

In this online workshop, Joe Warton and Ken Benjamin will explore this positive and biblical vision of discipleship in retirement, before providing you with practical tools to implement that vision, however you’re involved in discipling older people – whether as a church leader, a small group leader, or involved in ministry with retirees.

As always, there will be opportunities for reflection, discussion, and interaction. Plus, we will be unveiling our brand-new downloadable small group resource for retirees.

We look forward to seeing you there!
